Introduction

Understanding the canine's experience

My name is Rachel Meadows. I worked as a veterinary nurse for 15 years in many countries around the world. I had the great honour and privilege to have worked with Orang-utans In Borneo, Vet nursing  at Dublin Zoo and locum vet nursing at the PDSA.

I started my dog educational journey 25 years ago, over which time, many things have changed greatly, in the world of behaviour and training.   I qualified as a "trainer" in 2010 and since then have stay engaged in continuous professional development totalling thousand of hours over the years. I now reject the term "trainer" as it denotes the manipulation and control of the behaviour of another sentient being. I believe language matters and perhaps over time, using terms such as, educator, rather than trainer, may have a positive impact on how we, as a society, view our relationships with dogs.

I'm committed to the education of guardians and their dogs and in order to bring the best to my clients I believe it's paramount to use a dog centered approach when working with your dog.

Learn to Speak Dog with Rachel Meadows

Learning the secret language of dogs starts with becoming the human your dog thinks you are!

A client once said to me after working for some weeks together; "I realised that instead of asking my dog to work harder for me, I needed to work harder for him."
No matter what the challenge,  you have arrived at a place where both you and your dog won't be judged.
Finding our way through the darkness alone is far more daunting than having someone hold your hand who knows where they are going.  If you found your way here you are at the safest place you can be.  We are here to hold your hand through the next chapter and shine a light to guide you on your way.

How I work

I’ve been involved in the education of both animals and people for over 25 years.  I believe in developing a mutual understanding between you and your dog based on trust, evolving education and impeccable ethical standards.

I believe the secret to any relationship is walking fearlessly into the unknown and be willing to face our own reflections in the eyes of others. I know no other truth as strong as what we witness through the mirror of canine body language, that can echo, the sometimes muddy waters of our own souls.

It takes great courage to work through a relationship breakdown no matter what species it is with, but with support, not only anything is possible, but everything is possible.

At 'Learn to Speak Dog' it's not so much what we can teach our dogs,  rather,  what THEY can teach us.  Get the most out of your relationship with your dog by unlocking the secrets they hold.

Collaboration brings education to another level

I strongly believe that not one person knows it all and I therefore, am always  seeking to collaborate and case manage with a wide variety of professionals in the canine world so that each client gets the the support and knowledge base  of a team of incredible professionals, enhancing  the exceptional standard of care I endeavour to give every client and dog I work with.

I have an incredible amount of professionals that enrich the world of dogs and their human companions. Some by educating the next generation of trainers and behaviourists. Some with relationship counselling, Grief counselling, self selection medication, veterinary intervention, sensory exploring for dogs and many many more that make it their life's mission to better the lives of dogs around the world.
